We can all have fun getting fit.

The great thing about skipping is that it's inclusive - it's not just for the sporty kids. Time and time again, children who are the last to get chosen for team games pick up a skipping rope and discover a talent they never dreamt they could master.

At Skipping School, we teach skills that will last a lifetime, and lay the foundations for improved self-esteem, better health and greater fitness. Our skipping routines encourage children to play together for mutual benefit. This in turn leads to an improvement in communication skills and generates an overall positive behaviour.

Whether it's individual skipping routines or playground games … we'll show you how to improve your skills and have a great time doing it! Sessions can be created to suit the needs of young children, young people and adults - no one is too young or too old to have fun getting fit!

Book us now … you won't be disappointed.

Primary Schools:

Programme 1. Teach the Teachers (90mins - 2hrs) A session of interactive skipping tuition for Teaching Staff, and/or Lunchtime Supervisors, and also 'Playground Leaders'. The course content is aimed to show how the skills and games can help invigorate PE and/or Playground activities.

Programme 2. Fitness through Fun (half day) A morning or afternoon of skipping fun for a selected group or groups of KS1 or KS2 children concluding with a demonstration to the school. We show and share basic individual skills and playground games. Our aim is to stimulate children to continue skipping in the future and develop their skills to a higher level.

Programme 3. Fitness through fun (full day) 3 x 1-hour training sessions for 3 selected groups. One for Year 2, with a demonstration to KS1. Followed by one for Years 3 & 4. Finally one for Years 5 & 6. Concluding with a demonstration to KS2. Our aim is the same as above, but an 'all inclusive' atmosphere is created.

Programme 4. Fitness through fun (full day) Using the timetable for the whole day, a minimum of 30 minutes of skipping fun for each class group from Reception to Year 6. Concluding with a demonstation to the whole school. Our aim is the same as above, but this time it is totally inclusive, with all children from each age group experiencing the different skills and games.

High Schools / Youth Clubs / Community Centres:

Programme 5. Fitness through fun (half or full day) As this schedule is aimed at High Schools and Youth Clubs, a degree of flexibility is implemented, and sessions are 'tailor made' to suit individual groups. Our aim is to invigorate these young people to see the fitness and fun benefits of skipping and develop a wish to include the skills learnt in their own fitness routines.

About Us

Our solution is to show young people and adults that skipping is great fun. We can all learn to do it … and we can all get fit doing it!

Skipping's fun for everyone. Boxers do it. Athletes do it. Footballers do it. Everyone can do it.

• All our Coaches are individually CRB checked at 'enhanced disclosure' level, and carry the appropriate level of Public Liability Insurance cover.

• As a Company, we are registered with the British Rope Skipping Association (BRSA), and each of our Coaches holds their own individual membership. As for training, as each new Coach joins the Company, they are given extensive training, and attend BRSA courses and attain certificates in skipping tuition at ‘beginners, intermediate and advanced’ levels.

• We provide all the skipping ropes for each training session, and also retail them individually and/or in 'bulk purchase' sets.

• We operate across the North of England and the Midlands working with many Local Education Authorities. Most of our appointments come through sponsorship from the School Sports Co-ordinator Programme, where we have secured numerous long-standing working relationships.

Equipment :

The skipping ropes used are produced here in the UK, and are the same as those selected by the British Heart Foundation for use in their skipping programmes. The decision to use the same is based upon a quality testing schedule that is in place at the point of manufacture.

Skipping ropes:

Different lengths of rope are available to meet the differing heights of both children and adults, and 2 variations of playground ropes are also available for purchase.

Infants ropes (normally for Key Stage 1 children) : £3.50 each
Junior ropes (normally for Key Stage 2 children) : £3.50 each
Adult ropes (available for tall children or KS 3 & 4) : £4.00 each

Playground ‘short rope’ (a single rope for group skipping) : £5.00 each
Playground ‘long rope’ (for team games/group skipping) : £10.00 each
‘Double-dutch’ beaded ropes : £15.00 pair

Ropes are offered for purchase on an individual basis to those children and adults who may wish to have their own, however multiple purchases can be made by individuals and schools, and discounts will apply in these instances.
Different cord and handle colours are also available.

School sets of ropes can be made up in whatever quantities are required, but are ‘normally’ created as follows :

30 infant ropes, 30 junior ropes, 5 adult ropes, 4 playground ‘short’ ropes, and 3 playground ‘long’ ropes, and a pair of beaded double-dutch ropes. Total retail value as per above prices £295.00.
Discounted price £260.00

Programme 1: “Teach the Teachers” … this course runs for between 90 minutes and 2 hours.

Session objective - to show how skipping activities can be incorporated into PE lessons and/or Playground activities.

Session content - a practical induction to a range of individual, partner and ‘double-dutch’ skipping skills, and team games within long ropes.

Session attendees - the session is for Teaching Staff and/or Lunchtime Supervisors and/or Playground Leaders.

Teaching and Lunchtime Staff - prior to commencement of the training session, school representatives will be encouraged to identify any specific requirements they have, and then the Coach will create an atmosphere whereby the attendees will wish to involve themselves in the various skipping routines.

• session delivered ‘out of school’, either dedicated specifically for skipping, or as part of a ‘PE activity training day’.

• attendees will be encouraged to participate as ‘appropriate’ to each of their own individual physical well-being, abilities and capabilities.

• attendees will be given guidance as to what level of skill is ‘normally’ applicable to the children’s different age groups.

• attendees should, from their involvement in the course, be able to formulate their own skill development programme for the children.

• attendees should also introduce the skipping to their class groups / school playgrounds strategically over the following weeks.

• assistance in creating a tutorial programme can be given if required

Playground Leaders - prior to commencement of their training, the children will be given an explanation of their ‘new’ responsibilities, and all the safety guidelines.

• session ‘ideally’ delivered in school time, whether morning or afternoon.

• attendees will adhere to a fairly disciplined set of routines, in preparation for a demonstration to show the skills learnt to the whole school.

• attendees will be given help in developing their ‘coaching skills’ to help them with the tuition they will give to other children.

Participants having been shown how to master the various skipping skills, can then adopt responsibility for training and developing the other children’s skills in the weeks following. A presentation note folder will be given to each participant at the end of the session describing the routines practised. A ‘feed-back’ form will also be handed to each participant to complete at the end of the session.

Fees - set at £125.00, and this will be invoiced after the event.

Programme 2: “Fitness through fun” - half-day … this session runs for either a morning or afternoon, i.e. 2 to 2½. hours.

Session objective - to encourage the children selected to participate in various individual skipping skills, playground routines and games.

Session content - a practical induction to a range of individual, partner and ‘double-dutch’ skipping skills, and team games within long ropes.

Session participants - participating children can be from Key Stage 1 or 2, and either have existing skipping skills or not.

Session format - an ‘ideal’ session is for the children to experience a mixture of skills and games in either a 45-minute, or 90-minute schedule.

Session key points - to show and share a mixture of age and ability appropriate skills, our suggestion is that we hold two 45-minute sessions, one for a group of years 3 and 4 children and then follow this with a group of year 5 and 6 children (both groups having 10 from each class).

• all children will be given an explanation of the safety aspects involved in all the skipping activities.

• all children will be given an explanation of the health and fitness benefits they will experience by practicing the skipping skills.

• all children will practice skills appropriate to their stage of physical development.

• all children will be encouraged to continue to develop their skill proficiency in the weeks after the session.

• all children will be encouraged to share with, and pass the skills learnt onto other pupils in the school

Session conclusion - at the end of their training session, the children will have the confidence to demonstrate their skills to the rest of their Key Stage, or if appropriate the whole school.

The purpose of this ‘demonstration’ is to enthuse the rest of the children in school to see the ‘fun’ that can be had, and ask them to embrace the skipping as an activity. The outcome being, that without realising it, the ‘fitness’ benefits that the skipping exercises provide, will come naturally.

An additional aim is to also stimulate those children who would not ‘normally‘ join in with playground ‘team games’, to see they can now do so, recognising that skipping is not a competitive sport, but a fun activity to do whenever they want to.

A programme of skill development will also be outlined to a member of the School’s Teaching Staff (normally the Primary Link Teacher) by the Skipping Coach at the end of the session, this to create some continuity of the skipping in the weeks ahead.

Fees - set at £75.00, and this will be invoiced after the event.

Programme 3: “Fitness through fun” - full-day … 3 x 1-hour sessions - one for KS1 (plus demo.) and the other two for KS2 (plus demo.)

Session objective - to encourage the children selected to participate in various individual skipping skills, playground routines and games.

Session content - a practical induction to a range of individual, partner and ‘double-dutch’ skipping skills, and team games within long ropes.

Session participants - participating children are to be from years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, and have some existing skipping skills.

Session format - in all 3 ‘training’ sessions, the children will experience a mixture of age and ability appropriate skills and games.

Session key points - to show and share a mixture of skills and games to each Key Stage.

Our suggestion is that we utilise the morning, and hold the first session with around 20 year-2 children, and they then present their skills to the rest of KS1 in a 25-minute demonstration. We then take a group of years 3 and 4 children (10 from each class) for their session. After lunch, we then follow this with a group of year 5 and 6 children (again 10 from each class). At 2.30 the children from years 3, 4, 5 and 6 then present their skills to the rest of KS2 in a 35-minute demonstration.

Session conclusion - at the end of their training session, the children will have the confidence to both demonstrate their skills to the rest of their Key Stage, and also take some responsibility for helping other children develop their skills in the weeks following.

The purpose of these ‘demonstrations’ is as covered in the conclusion notes for programme 2, together with the additional aims for inclusion of all the children to experience the ‘fitness through fun’ activity that the skipping will provide. Similarly, initiation of some measures of skill development, as hopefully the School will embrace a continuity of the skipping in the weeks ahead.

Fees - set at £150.00, and this will be invoiced after the event.

Programme 4: “Fitness through fun” - full-day … 3 x 30 min. sessions for KS1, and 4 x 45 min. sessions for KS2 & whole school demo *

Session objective - to encourage all the children to participate in various individual skipping skills, playground routines and games.

Session content - a practical induction to a range of age and ability related individual skipping skills, and team games within long ropes.

Session participants - participating children are to be from Reception and through years 1 to 6, and have either no or some skipping skills.

Session format - in all the ‘training’ sessions, the children will experience a mixture of age and ability appropriate skills and games.

Session key points - to show and share a mixture of skills and games to each Key Stage.

Our suggestion is that we utilise the whole day, and hold the first session from 9.00 to 10.30 for KS1. From 10.30 to 12.00 we take years 3 and 4 children for their sessions. (we recognise there may have to be some adjustment to timings due to lunch / hall arrangement). From 1.00 to 2.30, we work with years 5 and 6 children. At 2.30 a selection of the children from years 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 then present their skills to the rest of school in a 30-minute demonstration. (again times may have to vary due to lunch and end-of-day timetable)

• all children will be given an explanation of the safety aspects involved in all the skipping activities.

• all children will be given an explanation of the health and fitness benefits they will experience by practicing the skipping skills.

• all children will practice skills appropriate to their age and stage of physical development.

• all children will be encouraged to continue to develop their skill proficiency in the weeks after the session.

• all children will be encouraged to share with, and pass the skills learnt onto other pupils in the school

Session conclusion* - at the end of the afternoon, the purpose of this ‘celebration’ assembly is for ‘selected’ children to demonstrate their skills to the rest of school.

During the ‘training’ sessions held with years 2 to 6, various different playground games and skills will have been practiced, and the assembly is for each class to share ‘their’ skills with each other class, and then encourage participation in the weeks after. Similarly, the Coach will initiate by discussion with the Teaching Staff some measures of skill development, as hopefully the School will embrace a continuity of the skipping in the weeks ahead. A ‘Staff Training Session’ could be added to the end of the day if appropriate.

Fees - set at £275.00, and this will be invoiced after the event.

Programme 5: “Fitness through fun” - the high school / youth club session … a series of 45 to 60 minute sessions for KS3 & 4 students.

Session objective - to encourage all the students to participate in various individual skipping skills, playground routines and games.

Session content - a practical induction to a range of age and ability related individual skipping skills, and team games within long ropes.

Session participants - participating students are to be from years 7 to 11, and have either no or some skipping skills.

Session format - in all the ‘training’ sessions, the students will experience a mixture of age and ability appropriate skills and games.

Session key points - to show and share a mixture of skills and games to each age group.

High Schools Sessions - our suggestion is that we utilise the whole day, and work within the school / college time-table. Each year group session will have a mixture of individual skipping skills, and a least 1 long-rope chase game. The basis is to encourage all participants to experience a fairly intensive ‘work-out’, and recognise the cardio-vascular and respiratory benefits of each exercise.

If there is an opportunity to hold a demonstration at the end of the day, particularly if working with one particular year group has been the focus of the day, then it would be beneficial to bring all class groups together to share the skills and individuals from each class can perform.

• all students will be given an explanation of the safety aspects involved in all the skipping activities.

• all students will be given an explanation of the health and fitness benefits they will experience by practicing the skipping skills.

• all students will practice skills appropriate to their age and stage of physical development.

• all students will be encouraged to continue to develop their skill proficiency in the weeks after the session.

• all students will be encouraged to share with, and pass the skills learnt onto other pupils in the school

Youth Club Sessions - our suggestion is that all participants attempt the basic school-based skills and games, as they do impact on personal levels of fitness, but as the focus of these sessions is more on inter-action between participants, creating an atmosphere of fun is the priority.

Session conclusion - at the end of either session, it is hoped these young people will have been sufficiently engaged in both the skipping skills and the games, that they will have recognised the general health benefits, and wish to continue as part of their own fitness regimes.

Fees - based upon session/s duration and number of participants.

Feedback

At the end of all of our sessions, we ask the participants to let us have some written ‘feed-back’, and we take this constructively to add value to the delivery of future events.

Our major success in the last academic year has been in producing various “Skipping Festivals”, where hundreds of children from many different Schools in an Area come together to participate in workshops and competitions.

Here are some of the comments from North Tyneside :

From Louise Humble, Primary School Teacher in North Shields

“A fabulous project. Would love to take part in it again next year. Good for my professional development. The day was very well organised and was a great atmosphere. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the day and the project, and they loved the skipping as it gave them of confidence”.

Matt Beresford, Primary School Teacher in North Shields

“The project created a major benefit in fitness with the children practicing skipping at breaks and lunchtimes. Its inclusive nature allowed children who do not normally compete athletically for the School to feel part of a ‘sporting team’”

Marianne Allan, Primary School Teacher in North Tyneside

This was an excellent event and I really enjoyed learning new skills and then constructing the (skip-dance) routine with the children. Rachael, the Coach, was superb, her management and style were spot on !

Comments from 2 of her pupils …

Callum year. 5 … “I learnt something new “

Brandon year.5 … “I didn’t really think I could skip – but it was good and I could”

Dawn Atkinson, Teacher at Southlands Special School in Whitley Bay

“All pupils involved have benefited in terms of self-confidence and skill. The project has also proved to be a catalyst for re-igniting organised lunchtime activities within School, which in turn seems to be having a positive impact on social behaviour i.e. less negative incidents.”

Nora Paddison, School Sports Co-ordinator, North Tyneside

“The event ticked so many boxes – fitness, enjoyment, team spirit, challenging, fun, etc. It made the children feel ‘special’. They loved the challenges and were willing to persevere at skills and could see improvement quickly. They enjoyed working solo, in pairs, trios and groups and were eager to show their skills and offer ideas.”
